Japan PM Sanae Takaichi to Visit India for Annual Summit Next Week

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will visit India from July 1 to 3 for the 16th India-Japan annual summit, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Friday. The visit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to strengthen bilateral ties in trade, investment, defence, and other areas.

The summit will allow both sides to review and enhance the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, according to the MEA statement. This will be Takaichi's first official visit to India since assuming office.

The visit follows Prime Minister Modi's trip to Tokyo in August 2025 for the 15th annual summit, reflecting the shared commitment to deepen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. The two countries have maintained regular high-level exchanges and cooperation in various sectors.
