Copper at ₹1,450 a kg: Coimbatore's MSMEs squeezed as prices jump 75% in a year
Copper prices in Coimbatore have risen nearly 75% in a year to about ₹1,450 a kg, squeezing MSMEs that make auto components, pumps and electronic goods. Industry representatives say units have passed on only 10%–15% of the increase because prices are fixed annually or once in two years. Rising costs of steel, zinc and petroleum-based products have added to the pressure on the cluster's competitiveness.
