TNAU, Annamalai University announce common admissions for UG agriculture programmes
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and Annamalai University have announced a common admission process for undergraduate and diploma agriculture programmes for the academic year 2026-27. This unified system allows students to apply to both institutions using a single online application, simplifying an otherwise multi-step procedure.
The admission drive encompasses 14 undergraduate programmes and three diploma courses at TNAU, and three undergraduate agriculture programmes at Annamalai University's Agriculture Department. In total, 7,592 seats are available: TNAU's constituent colleges will fill 2,516 seats, while its affiliated private colleges offer 4,736 seats—comprising 3,051 under the government quota and 1,685 under the management quota. Annamalai University contributes 340 seats. The wide range of disciplines includes specialisations such as agricultural engineering, horticulture, food technology, and agribusiness.
Interested candidates must submit their applications online by June 17. The ranking of applicants will be published on June 23, and a correction window will be open from June 24 to June 27 for any discrepancies. Offline counselling for diploma programmes is slated for June 29. For undergraduate courses, online counselling will be held from July 6 to July 12, covering both general category students and those eligible under the 7.5% reservation quota for government school graduates. This reservation, a state government initiative, seeks to level the playing field for students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds.
After counselling, certificate verification will occur in four phases between July 20 and August 27 to confirm admissions. Students who are awaiting supplementary examination results will be accommodated later, with dates to be announced after the School Education Department releases those results. Regular classes are scheduled to begin on September 9, and any remaining vacant seats will be filled through spot admissions starting September 15.
The collaboration between TNAU—a premier agricultural university in India known for its research and extension services—and Annamalai University, a comprehensive public university with a strong agriculture faculty, is expected to benefit thousands of aspiring agricultural professionals. Agriculture remains a vital sector in Tamil Nadu, and quality education in this field equips students with modern techniques in crop production, soil management, and sustainable farming practices. Graduates often find employment in government departments, agri-business firms, research institutions, and as entrepreneurs in the agri-startup ecosystem.
