HBCSE Opens Registrations for Chemistry Olympiad Teacher Camp 2026
The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), a national centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), has invited applications from teachers for its Chemistry Olympiad Exposure Camp 2026. The four-day residential camp aims to familiarise teachers with the nuances of the Chemistry Olympiad and enhance their pedagogical skills in the subject.
Scheduled to be held from November 16 to November 19 at HBCSE’s campus in Mumbai, the camp is open to teachers currently teaching Chemistry to students in Classes 10, 11, and 12. Teachers working in schools and junior colleges affiliated with state or central education boards are eligible to apply.
Interested candidates must register online through the Google Form available on the official HBCSE Olympiad website. The last date for submission is September 11. HBCSE has clarified that new applicants will be given preference over teachers who have previously attended a Chemistry Olympiad Exposure Camp. The list of selected teachers will be published on the HBCSE website and its Olympiad portal by September 18.
The camp is designed to provide teachers with a deeper understanding of the Chemistry Olympiad programme and the teaching approaches it employs. Sessions will cover both theoretical and experimental aspects of chemistry, along with practice on problems used in the Indian Chemistry Olympiad. Participants are expected to solve at least one Olympiad problem before attending the camp and must be prepared to discuss the teaching or learning dimensions of their assigned problem during the sessions.
HBCSE will reimburse round-trip travel expenses for selected teachers, subject to prescribed rules and a maximum limit equivalent to II AC train fare. Teachers have been instructed to book tickets only through travel agencies specified by the centre. Food and accommodation for the duration of the camp will be arranged at the HBCSE Guest House.
This initiative reflects HBCSE’s continued commitment to strengthening science education in India by equipping teachers with advanced subject knowledge and problem-solving strategies. The Chemistry Olympiad is part of the broader international science Olympiad movement, which identifies and nurtures talented young scientists. By training teachers, HBCSE hopes to extend the reach of such programmes to a wider student community, particularly from schools that may not have direct exposure to competitive science training.
Teachers keen to participate are advised to complete their registration well before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical issues. For more details and the application link, they can visit the official HBCSE Olympiad website.
