Telangana Braces for Heavy Rain: IMD Issues Alert for 9 Districts on July 5

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall forecast for nine districts in Telangana for Sunday, July 5, 2026. The warning comes as part of the IMD's latest bulletin, which highlights the likelihood of significant precipitation in isolated areas.

According to the bulletin, heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places in Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts. These areas are expected to receive substantial downpours, potentially leading to waterlogging and localised disruption.

In addition to heavy rain, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong surface winds are very likely in isolated places across Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts. Strong surface winds are also expected in the remaining districts of the state, though without the thunderstorm activity.

For Hyderabad city and its surrounding areas, the IMD predicts a generally cloudy sky over the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds, are very likely. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 29°C, while the minimum will be around 23°C. Residents are advised to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours.

The IMD has urged local authorities to remain prepared for potential flood-like situations in low-lying areas. Farmers in the affected districts are advised to take necessary precautions to protect crops. The bulletin also calls for vigilance regarding lightning strikes and strong winds, which can pose risks to life and property.

This forecast underscores the importance of timely weather updates for public safety. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue further alerts if necessary.

Can the Indian Ocean Dipole Rescue India's Drying Monsoon in 2026?

India's 2026 monsoon began with a 40% rainfall deficit in June, raising fears of a weak season due to strengthening El Niño. However, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), a climate phenomenon that can boost rainfall over India, may offer relief later in the season if it turns positive. A positive IOD has previously offset El Niño's effects, as seen in 1997 and 2019.
