Maharashtra's Marathwada Region Jolted by 4 Tremors in Two Hours; No Injuries
A series of mild tremors struck parts of Maharashtra's Marathwada region in the early hours of Thursday, with residents in Nanded, Hingoli and Parbhani districts experiencing the shaking, officials confirmed.
According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), the tremors were recorded between 1:37 am and 3:23 am, with magnitudes ranging from 3.6 to 4.6 on the Richter scale. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the first tremor, of magnitude 4.6, occurred at 1:37 am near Nanded, followed by a 3.6 magnitude tremor at 2:41 am, and two more tremors of magnitude 3.8 and 4.0 at 3:07 am and 3:23 am respectively.
Officials stated that there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property. District authorities in Nanded, Hingoli and Parbhani have been instructed to remain vigilant and assess the situation. The tremors were felt across the region, but no evacuation orders have been issued.
Marathwada falls under seismic Zone III, which indicates a moderate risk of earthquakes. The region has experienced minor tremors in the past, but such a series of four tremors within two hours is relatively uncommon. Experts note that earthquakes of magnitudes below 5.0 usually do not cause significant damage unless they occur in densely populated areas with poorly constructed buildings.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Residents are advised to stay calm and follow safety protocols during such events.
