At Least 8 Dead as Monsoon Triggers Mudslide, Flooding in Kerala and Gujarat

At least three people were killed and five others remained missing after a rain-triggered mudslide at a tunnel project in Kerala's Wayanad district on Tuesday. Officials described the incident as 'man-made' and said rescue operations were underway.

In Gujarat, five persons died in rain-related incidents over two days, with Surat district being the worst affected. Over 2,100 people were shifted from flooded areas to safer locations, authorities reported. Extremely heavy rainfall has also disrupted normal life in parts of southern Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, several northern states, including the national capital, received rainfall that provided relief from recent heat. However, waterlogging was reported in many areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of increased rainfall activity over north India in the next three days.

The monsoon season continues to pose challenges across the country, with authorities on alert for further weather-related emergencies.
