Ahmedabad civic body finds 27 food samples unfit in 15-day drive
The Food Department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has reported that 27 out of 409 food samples collected during inspections between June 1 and June 15 were found to be unfit and harmful to health. The inspections were carried out across food business units in various ward areas of the city under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
According to officials, a total of 1,027 food units were inspected during this period. The samples included 16 of cold drinks (juice, lassi, ice cream, sherbet, shikanji, ice gola), 28 of sugarcane juice, mango milkshake and watermelon juice, 88 of cheese, milk and milk products, 18 of sweets, 11 of bakery products, 45 of salt, 18 of gram flour, flour and grains, 12 of edible oil, 54 of spices, and 119 of other food items.
The AMC has stated that inspections will continue in the coming days, focusing on hygiene, licences, and registrations of food business operators. Further details on the specific violations or actions taken against the erring units were not provided.
