Rahul Gandhi Meets Five Key Punjab Leaders Ahead of Congress Reorganisation
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with five prominent Punjab party leaders on Tuesday, sources said, as the party prepares for a reorganisation of its state unit ahead of the next assembly elections.
The discussions, which took place at Gandhi's residence, are part of ongoing efforts to address internal factionalism and strengthen the party's position in Punjab. The meeting comes amid reports that the Congress high command is considering a reshuffle of the state leadership to project a united front.
The five leaders, whose identities have not been officially confirmed, are believed to include former state president Navjot Singh Sidhu, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, and other senior figures. Sources said the talks focused on organisational changes, ticket distribution, and strategies to counter the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance.
This is the first such meeting since Gandhi completed his cross-country yatra and resumed active party work. Political analysts view the move as an attempt to centralise decision-making and address grievances within the Punjab unit, which has seen public infighting in recent months.
The Congress has not made any official statement on the outcome of the meeting. Party insiders indicated that further consultations with district-level leaders are likely before any final announcement.
Punjab is crucial for the Congress, which ruled the state until 2022 before losing to AAP. The party hopes that organisational changes will help rebuild its grassroots network and regain voter trust.
