Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Presents Budget with Rosary and Sign of Cross
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Marie Wilson presented the Revised Budget Estimates for 2026-27 in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. As he entered the House, he was seen carrying a rosary and began his budget speech by making the sign of the cross.
The rosary is a string of beads used in Christian prayer, while the sign of the cross is a gesture invoking the Holy Trinity, common among many Christian denominations. These actions were visible to members present in the chamber.
Mr. Wilson's choice of attire also differed from that of his predecessors, who traditionally wore dhotis. On this occasion, he was dressed in trousers and a tucked-in shirt with button tabs securing his rolled-up sleeves.
