Orange Alert for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh: Heavy Rain Expected from Tuesday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, forecasting heavy rainfall from Tuesday. The alert warns of downpours ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm over a 24-hour period, which could lead to waterlogging and disruptions in low-lying areas.

According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation over northwest India is likely to intensify, bringing widespread precipitation. Residents are advised to stay cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and secure belongings. Farmers have been cautioned to delay harvesting activities.

The orange alert is the second-highest warning level, indicating the potential for moderate to severe weather impacts. The IMD has also warned of possible flash floods in vulnerable areas. Local authorities in the three regions have been put on standby to handle emergencies.

This comes after a relatively dry spell in the region. The Met department has urged people to follow official updates and take preventive measures to minimise damage.
