NASA Astronaut Anil Menon Shares View of SpaceX Starbase from Orbit
NASA astronaut Dr. Anil Menon has shared a photograph of SpaceX's Starbase facility as seen from the International Space Station (ISS). The image, captured from orbit, offers a unique perspective of the launch site located in Boca Chica, Texas.
In a social media post, Menon wrote, "Our view of Starbase from space! Here's to a successful launch. Send it!" The post included the photograph and garnered attention for both its visual appeal and its message of encouragement for space exploration.
Dr. Anil Menon is a NASA astronaut, emergency medicine physician, and former SpaceX flight surgeon. He was selected as part of NASA's 2021 astronaut class. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to an Indian father with roots in Kerala and a Ukrainian mother, Menon arrived at the ISS two weeks ago along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina.
The photograph prompted reactions from social media users, with one commenting "Rocket paradise" and another noting "The most spectacular views ever from any rocket on the ascending side of launch! Absolutely love it!" A third user simply said "So cool!"
Starbase serves as SpaceX's primary development and testing site for the Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket. The site has been the location of multiple test flights and is central to the company's plans for lunar and Martian missions.
