Loco pilot spots iron pipe on tracks, prevents potential train accident in UP
A major railway accident was averted in Uttar Pradesh after the loco pilot of the Banaras-Mumbai LTT Express applied emergency brakes upon spotting an iron pipe on the tracks, officials confirmed on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
The train, which departed from Varanasi to Mumbai, was brought to a halt around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, near Iradatganj and Link Station. The loco pilot immediately alerted railway authorities after noticing the obstruction.
North Central Railway (NCR) Chief Public Relations Officer Shivam Sharma stated that the pipe appeared to have been placed on the tracks deliberately. He described it as hollow and rusted.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has registered a case against unknown individuals and launched an investigation into the incident. The pipe was removed from the track, allowing the train to resume its journey to Mumbai within a few minutes.
No injuries or damage were reported. Railway officials have urged the public to report any suspicious activity near railway tracks to ensure safety.
