Karnataka Cabinet Expansion: Yathindra Siddaramaiah Signals Inclusion of New Ministers

Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah has indicated that new faces are likely to be inducted into the Karnataka Cabinet in an upcoming expansion. Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, he dismissed allegations by opposition leaders that the selection process would be influenced by financial considerations, a practice colloquially referred to as 'suitcase culture'.

'The allegation that ministerial berths are given in return for suitcases of money is false. The suitcase culture exists in the Opposition party that is making such allegations,' Mr. Siddaramaiah said, asserting that appointments would be based on efficiency and loyalty to the party.

The expansion, originally expected earlier, was delayed due to elections to the Legislative Council and the Rajya Sabha. Mr. Siddaramaiah expressed hope that the exercise would be taken up soon. He added that the party high command had invited former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for discussions on the matter.

On the topic of kambala, the traditional slush-track buffalo race, Mr. Siddaramaiah said it is part of Karnataka's cultural heritage. Acknowledging opposition to organising kambala during the Dasara festival in Mysuru, he stated that the Chief Minister would take an appropriate decision after considering all aspects. He noted that kambala could be conducted without cutting trees or harming the environment, though no final decision has been made.
