Intense Rainfall in Telangana: Mulugu Records 122.8 mm, Authorities on Alert
Heavy rainfall affected several districts of Telangana on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, with Mulugu, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mancherial, and Karimnagar recording intense downpours between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Authorities have stepped up flood monitoring and issued public advisories.
According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Eturunagaram in Mulugu district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 122.8 mm, followed by 115.3 mm in Wazeed (Mulugu), 100.8 mm in Kannaigudem (Mulugu), 92.8 mm in Kunaram (Peddapalli), 92.3 mm in Mutharam Mahadevpur (Jayashankar Bhupalpally), 82.3 mm in Jaipur (Mancherial), and 76.5 mm in Gundi (Karimnagar).
In Mulugu district, Collector B. Hemant Sahadeorao inspected a flood-damaged diversion road across the Isuka Vagu between Cheekupalli and Peddagollagudem villages in Wajedu mandal. Overnight rain washed away the temporary approach road beside a bridge under construction, temporarily halting vehicular movement on National Highway 163, which connects Telangana with Chhattisgarh. The Collector directed officials to restore the alternative route once floodwaters recede and instructed all departments to remain on high alert, as heavy rainfall is forecast over the next three days.
In Jagtial district, Collector B. Satya Prasad urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel during the heavy rain. The district administration has established a 24-hour control room at the Collectorate to coordinate relief measures and provide immediate assistance. Residents, particularly those in low-lying areas, are advised to stay away from streams, rivulets, and ponds, where water levels may rise rapidly. In contrast, Hyderabad remained largely dry through the afternoon, with no significant rainfall reported by 3 p.m.
