India Calls Out Pakistan at UN Over Cross-Border Terrorism
In a strong rebuke at the United Nations, India on Thursday demanded that Pakistan take concrete action against cross-border terrorism emanating from its soil. Delivering India's statement at the UN General Assembly, India's Permanent Representative said that countries sponsoring terrorism must be held accountable and urged Pakistan to 'put its own house in order' before lecturing others on human rights and democracy.
The Indian delegate cited multiple instances of Pakistani-based terror groups operating across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, including the 2019 Pulwama attack. He stressed that such actions violate UN Security Council resolutions and international law. India also highlighted the need to combat the financing of terror networks.
Pakistan's representative, responding to the allegations, denied the claims and accused India of human rights violations in Kashmir. He called for dialogue on the Kashmir issue. However, India maintained that bilateral talks cannot proceed until Pakistan stops supporting terrorism.
The exchange reflects the ongoing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. India has consistently raised the issue of cross-border terrorism at international forums, while Pakistan denies involvement and pushes for dialogue on Kashmir's status.
The UN session saw several countries expressing support for India's stand, with many calling for an end to terrorist safe havens. This development comes ahead of the upcoming UN Security Council meeting on counter-terrorism, where India is expected to push for stronger action against all terrorist entities.
