INDIA Bloc to Challenge BJP on Ram Temple Donations, NEET Leak in Parliament Session
The INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties, plans to use the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament to raise concerns over the Ram temple donation case and the NEET paper leak, among other issues, according to RJD MP Sudhakar Singh.
In an interview on Sunday, Singh alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is pursuing a strategy to weaken opposition parties through defections, aiming to secure a two-thirds majority to push its legislative agenda. The Monsoon Session is scheduled from July 20 to August 13.
“The BJP wants to achieve a two-thirds majority by breaking Opposition parties across the country. The INDIA bloc will oppose that unitedly,” Singh said. He listed burning issues including the Ram Mandir donation theft, the NEET paper leak, unemployment, corruption, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
On defections, Singh alleged that safeguards under the anti-defection law are being ignored. “Every Opposition party is concerned because the ruling party is trying to weaken its rivals despite lacking the numbers on its own,” he said.
Singh further alleged that the BJP’s actions are part of a broader attempt to undermine the Constitution. He referred to the 2024 Lok Sabha election narrative of “saving the Constitution,” claiming that current laws and actions are now weakening it.
Regarding the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, Singh alleged it was an attack on voting rights. “If genuine voters are deleted from the electoral rolls, governments can be changed through the voter list rather than through the ballot,” he said, adding that such practices could lead to elections resembling those in “China, Russia and North Korea, where almost all votes go to the ruling party.”
The RJD MP said the opposition would strongly resist legislation such as ‘One Nation, One Election’ and delimitation, which he claims weaken democratic rights. “If the government brings laws that weaken the Constitution, the INDIA bloc will oppose them both inside Parliament and on the streets,” he said.
Calling the NEET paper leak a “national crisis,” Singh expressed support for ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and the Cockroach Janta Party. “Students have suffered irreparable losses, families have exhausted their savings, and many young people have slipped into depression,” he said, vowing to continue the movement until accountability is achieved.
Singh also accused the BJP of using administrative measures to target opposition leaders, citing the eviction of former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi from her official residence and an FIR registered against him in a land dispute.
