IMD issues heatwave warning for 13 Telangana districts on June 19
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for 13 districts in Telangana for Friday, 19 June. According to the IMD's latest bulletin, heatwave conditions are likely to occur at isolated pockets in Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanumakonda districts.
A heatwave is declared when maximum temperatures reach at least 40 degrees Celsius in plains and 30 degrees Celsius in hilly areas, and are significantly above normal. Residents in these districts are advised to take precautions, such as staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and wearing light clothing.
In addition to the heatwave, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated places in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla and Karimnagar districts. These conditions may lead to temporary disruptions, and people are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms.
For Hyderabad city and its surrounding areas, the IMD predicts a partly cloudy sky over the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 39 degrees Celsius, and the minimum around 29 degrees Celsius. The weather in Hyderabad is expected to remain relatively cooler compared to the districts under heatwave warning.
The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will update its forecasts as necessary. Authorities in Telangana have been alerted to take appropriate measures to mitigate the impact of the heatwave and thunderstorms.
