Election Commission Extends Voter Roll Revision Deadlines for Punjab, Karnataka, Telangana, and Delhi

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadlines for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in three states—Punjab, Karnataka, and Telangana—as well as the national capital Delhi. The revised schedule was announced in a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi.

Under the new timeline, the draft electoral rolls for Delhi will now be published on August 17 instead of August 5. The house-to-house verification visits by booth level officers (BLOs) in Delhi, originally set to conclude on July 29, will continue until August 8.

In Punjab, the house-to-house visits have been extended to August 3 from the earlier deadline of July 24. The draft rolls for the state will be published on August 13, replacing the previous date of July 31. The final electoral rolls are now scheduled for October 12, a slight delay from October 10.

Telangana's draft rolls will be published on August 10, with final rolls expected on October 12. In Karnataka, house-to-house visits will continue until August 8 (previously July 29), draft rolls on August 17 (instead of August 5), and final rolls on October 19, delayed from October 7.

This extension follows a similar revision for Haryana and Andhra Pradesh announced on July 14. All these states and Union territories are part of Phase 3 of the SIR, which began on May 14. Once Phase 3 is complete, the entire country except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh will be covered under the SIR rollout.

The ECI has noted that schedule adjustments have been common in previous phases due to various operational reasons.
