E-rickshaw battery blast in Delhi godown kills two, including minor

Two people, including a 17-year-old, died after a fire broke out in a godown in west Delhi's Raghubir Nagar early on Monday morning, following a suspected blast in an e-rickshaw battery.

The Delhi Fire Services received an alert at around 4:42 a.m. from R-17A, Masjid Gurudwara Road, Raghubir Nagar, under the Moti Nagar police station jurisdiction. Three water tenders and a water-bowser were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

According to officials, the fire broke out among domestic articles on the first floor of a building that comprises a ground floor and four upper floors. Preliminary findings indicate that a blast in an e-rickshaw battery triggered the blaze.

The victims have been identified as Sufaid, 17, and Mohd. Samid, 38. Both suffered burn injuries and were taken to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in Raghubir Nagar. The medical officer on duty declared them brought dead, officials said.

Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the incident. Authorities are also examining the safety of e-rickshaw battery storage in residential and commercial areas.
