CISF official suspended after being accused of photographing woman in Delhi Metro
A CISF official was suspended on Sunday after a woman accused him of taking her photographs inside a Delhi Metro coach. The incident, which took place around 1 p.m., led to a scuffle between the official and some passengers, according to police sources.
The official, holding the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), was confronted by the woman inside a moving metro coach. A video of the confrontation, which subsequently surfaced on social media, shows the woman demanding an explanation from the official. The CISF officer denied the allegation, but sources said that some passengers who joined the argument claimed to have found photographs of the woman in the official's mobile phone gallery.
The passengers asked the official to delete the pictures, leading to a heated argument. When the official attempted to leave the coach, passengers stopped him, and the situation escalated into a scuffle. The video of the altercation has been widely shared online, prompting a response from the CISF.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CISF Delhi Metro stated: “A matter has been reported regarding the alleged misconduct by CISF personnel towards a female passenger in a metro train. The CISF has viewed this with utmost seriousness at the highest levels. The concerned personnel has been placed under suspension with immediate effect, and a detailed inquiry has been ordered. Further appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.”
The CISF is the central armed police force responsible for security at Delhi Metro stations and trains. The force has a code of conduct and standard operating procedures for its personnel while on duty. Instances of alleged misconduct by security personnel are taken seriously, and swift action is typically taken to maintain public confidence in the security apparatus.
Police sources said they are examining the circumstances that led to the altercation. The video, which is being analysed, is expected to provide more clarity on the sequence of events. No formal complaint has been filed by either party yet, but the police are in touch with the woman and other witnesses.
The incident has drawn attention to the privacy concerns of passengers using public transport. While the Delhi Metro is equipped with CCTV cameras, the alleged act of a security official photographing a passenger without consent has raised questions about conduct and accountability. Civil liberties groups have called for a transparent and speedy inquiry into the matter.
The suspended official has been attached to the CISF lines pending the completion of the enquiry. The force has assured that action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, is reported to be safe and has cooperated with authorities.
This incident comes at a time when the CISF has been increasingly deployed for internal security duties, including at airports, metro networks, and other vital installations. The force prides itself on professionalism and discipline, and incidents like this are considered serious breaches of trust.
As the inquiry proceeds, the CISF is expected to review its training and sensitisation programmes to prevent such occurrences in the future. The outcome of the investigation will determine whether further disciplinary action, including dismissal, is warranted.
The Delhi Metro, which carries millions of passengers daily, has a strong security presence. Commuters have expressed mixed reactions, with some praising the passengers who intervened, while others have called for stricter checks on security personnel. The authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious or inappropriate behaviour immediately.
