Delhi Metro Shuts 16 Stations Second Day Amid Protests at Jantar Mantar
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) closed 16 metro stations in Central Delhi for the second consecutive day on Thursday, citing security reasons. The stations include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House, ITO, and Khan Market, among others.
The closures came after similar restrictions were imposed on Wednesday. In a post on social media platform X, the DMRC announced that the affected stations would remain closed from 7:30 AM until further notice. However, interchange facilities at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat were kept operational.
The stations closed are: Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium.
The move is linked to ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar, a historic site often used for demonstrations. Thousands of protestors have gathered there since last week, demanding policy changes from the government. The protests have been peaceful, but authorities have taken precautionary measures to manage crowd movement and ensure public safety.
Commuters have been advised to use alternative routes or other modes of transport. The DMRC has not specified when normal services will resume.
