All-Party Meet on July 19 Ahead of Monsoon Session; Opposition Gears Up
The central government has called an all-party meeting on July 19, 2026, to discuss the legislative agenda for the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which is scheduled to begin on July 20 and continue until August 13, 2026. The meeting is expected to set the tone for the session, with the government outlining its priority bills and the opposition preparing to raise key issues.
According to officials, the government has a heavy legislative agenda, including several significant bills. Among them is the proposed 130th Constitution Amendment Bill, which has sparked political debate over a provision that mandates the automatic removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and other ministers if they remain in judicial custody for 30 consecutive days in cases involving serious offences. The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining the bill is expected to adopt its report on July 17 before submitting it to Parliament.
The opposition is likely to raise the NEET-UG paper leak case and remarks made by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh regarding casualties in Operation Sindoor. The Congress party has moved a breach of privilege notice against Rajnath Singh over these remarks.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the session dates on social media, stating that both Houses of Parliament would convene for meaningful debate on issues of national importance.
Ahead of the session, political realignments have occurred. Twenty MPs from the Trinamool Congress have merged with the National Citizens Party of India, following the party's defeat in assembly elections. Additionally, three Trinamool Congress MPs resigned from the Rajya Sabha and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). There has been further fragmentation in the Shiv Sena (UBT), with six of its Lok Sabha MPs joining the faction led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Earlier, seven Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MPs in the Rajya Sabha had joined the BJP.
The all-party meeting and the upcoming session are expected to witness intense debates as both the ruling coalition and opposition parties prepare to outline their positions on various legislative and governance issues.
