After tigress death, A.P. sets up high-power committee to revive tiger conservation

The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a five-member High-Power Committee (HPC) for tiger conservation in the State, acting on the directions of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Environment and Forests K. Pawan Kalyan. The decision comes in the wake of the recent suspicious death of a tigress in the Nallamala forest, an official release said.

The HPC has been tasked with preparing a comprehensive report on tiger conservation and recommending guidelines for future action plans. The committee comprises State Forest Department Advisor P. Mallikarjuna Rao, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Rahul Pandey, WWF-India member B. Rajasekhar, Hyderabad Conservation for Tiger Society representative Imran Siddiqui, and wildlife scientist M. Naveen Kumar. These members bring expertise in forestry, wildlife science, and conservation advocacy, which will be crucial for the committee's work.

Kalyan has instructed the HPC to identify the specific threats to tiger populations and their habitats in Andhra Pradesh and to formulate suitable strategies for their protection.
