Woman allegedly killed, man critical in Rajamahendravaram after families oppose marriage

In a tragic incident in Rajamahendravaram city, a 21-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her partner, who then attempted to end his own life. The incident occurred near the Fourth Bridge on Monday night, police said. The woman, Varada Prasanna, and the man, Kusuma Abhilash, both aged 21, were in a relationship and had allegedly planned to die together after their families opposed their marriage.

The police were alerted to the situation at around 11.30 p.m. after officials from the National Highways Authority noticed the two individuals and a two-wheeler on the roadside. They immediately informed the city police, who rushed to the spot.

According to a release from East Godavari Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore, Ms. Prasanna had succumbed to knife injuries. Abhilash was found in an unconscious state and was taken to a private hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical. The police have not yet been able to record his detailed statement.

Preliminary information provided by Abhilash, before his condition deteriorated, indicated that the two had arrived on the two-wheeler at around 8.30 p.m. They reportedly decided to take this extreme step after their parents rejected their marriage proposal. The Three Town police have registered a case in connection with the incident. The body of the woman has been sent to the Government General Hospital for post-mortem.
