Trump Warns of Action if Iran Violates Interim Deal; Cites Food Purchase Agreement

U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday (June 22, 2026) that he would take necessary action if Iran fails to comply with the recently signed interim agreement between the two nations. Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “If Iran doesn’t live up to their agreement, or if they’re not behaving, I will do what I have to do.”

The interim deal was signed last week by Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, following a series of escalations that included U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran and subsequent Iranian retaliatory strikes on Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. military bases. The conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths and millions of displacements, primarily due to U.S.-Israeli operations in Iran and Israeli strikes in Lebanon. It has also caused significant volatility in global markets and an increase in international oil prices.

Trump clarified that under the agreement, the funds being unfrozen for Iran must be used exclusively to purchase food from the United States. “All that money’s coming back in the form of purchases of food which they desperately need. They have 91 million people, they can’t feed them. So, the money that we lift is going to go to our farmers,” he asserted.

The deal marks a temporary pause in hostilities, but Trump’s remarks underscore the fragile nature of the accord. No further details were provided on what specific actions he might take if Iran is found to be in violation.
