Three killed as car rams autorickshaw carrying Muharram returnees in Andhra Pradesh
Three passengers in an autorickshaw died and three others were injured after a car collided head-on with their vehicle in the early hours of Friday in Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh. The accident occurred at Tanavaddipalle village in Mudupula Vemula panchayat, Piler mandal.
According to Piler Circle police, eight residents of Regalla village were returning from Dudekulapalle in neighbouring Kalikiri mandal after attending Pirla Panduga, part of Muharram observances. A car travelling from Tirumala towards Sambepalle hit the share-auto.
The impact killed autorickshaw driver Mubhakarak (37) and passenger Mehrun Bhi (35) on the spot. Another passenger, Venkat (30), died later at the government hospital in Tirupati after being shifted there with critical injuries.
Three others, including two women and a nine-month-old baby, sustained minor injuries and are undergoing treatment. Police registered a case and took the car driver into custody. Investigations are under way.
Annamayya district in-charge and Minister for Roads and Buildings B.C. Janardhan Reddy expressed shock and offered condolences. He directed district authorities to ensure quality medical care for the injured.
