Ex-Army Subedar Killed in Hyderabad Wrong-Side Hit-and-Run; SUV Found Abandoned
A 47-year-old former Indian Army subedar was killed and two others were injured in a hit-and-run accident in Hydershakote, near Hyderabad, early Monday morning. The police said a Mahindra SUV travelling in the wrong direction struck three two-wheelers and was later abandoned by the driver.
The deceased has been identified as Ravinder, a resident of the area who had previously served in the Indian Army as a subedar. The two injured persons are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
According to Narsingi Inspector D Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, the accident occurred at around 5.30 am. "The car, travelling in the wrong direction, hit three bikes at Hydershakote. The three riders sustained injuries, out of which one died," the inspector said.
The SUV was visibly damaged in the crash. The driver abandoned the vehicle at some distance from the accident site and fled on foot, police said. Preliminary investigation suggests that there were two occupants in the car at the time of the incident. Officials are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify the driver responsible.
The SUV is reportedly registered in the name of B Kranthi Goud. The police have also found that the vehicle had three pending traffic challans — two for speeding and one for wrong parking. However, officials clarified that these challans are not necessarily connected to the current accident.
It is not yet known whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or other substances. A case has been registered at the Narsingi police station, and further investigation is underway.
The incident has once again highlighted the issue of negligent driving and hit-and-run cases in the city. Authorities have urged witnesses or those with any information about the incident to come forward to assist the investigation.
