Kerala's 100-Day Plan: Only 13 of 602 Projects Done as 60 Days Remain

The United Democratic Front (UDF) government in Kerala, led by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, is facing public scrutiny over its '100-Day Action Plan for a New Kerala'. With 60 days remaining in the stipulated 100-day period, only 13 of the 602 announced projects have been marked as completed on the government's official dashboard.

The '100-Day Action Plan for a New Kerala' was a major electoral promise of the UDF, aimed at delivering visible development in the first months of the new government. The projects span infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social welfare, among other sectors. The action plan, covering 50 departments, was launched on July 1, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on October 9, 2026. In a bid to ensure transparency, the government launched a dedicated website, 100days.kerala.gov.in, enabling citizens to track the progress of each project in real time.

While it is customary for newly elected governments to announce 100-day action plans, the public rarely assesses their execution. The launch of the dashboard marks a significant step towards transparency, offering citizens a direct view of the government's performance. However, the data also highlights the gap between announcements and ground reality.

As of Monday, with approximately one-third of the plan period elapsed, the dashboard recorded progress for all 602 projects. Yet, completion figures remain considerably low. The Health and Family Welfare Department, in particular, has drawn attention. Tasked with implementing 41 projects at a total cost of ₹2,990 lakh, the department's physical progress and completed projects both stand at 0%.

This lack of visible progress in a critical sector has raised concerns among public health activists. B. Ekbal, a noted public health expert, expressed hope that Health Minister K. Muraleedharan would take urgent action to ensure timely implementation. He underscored that citizens have the right to know how public funds are being utilised. While praising the dashboard as a welcome transparency measure, Dr. Ekbal cautioned that such tools are only as effective as the accuracy of the data they present.

The slow pace of implementation raises questions about the government's ability to meet its self-imposed deadline. The remaining 60 days will be crucial, and the onus is on the administration to accelerate delivery. The dashboard, if updated faithfully, will serve as a testament to the government's commitment to accountability.

As the deadline approaches, all eyes will be on the government to see whether it can turn the tide. The dashboard provides a transparent mechanism for citizens to hold their representatives accountable. The coming weeks will reveal whether the administration can match its words with deeds.
