Telangana names Hyderabad road ‘Donald Trump Avenue’, former US President expresses thanks

The Telangana government has renamed a road in Hyderabad as 'Donald Trump Avenue', prompting a message of gratitude from the former United States President.

Donald Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social on Friday (June 26, 2026) to acknowledge the honour, calling it a first for any US President in India. He shared a photograph showing Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and US envoy to India Sergio Gor unveiling a ceremonial plaque.

The newly designated road is located near the US Consulate in Hyderabad and is also close to offices of major American technology companies, including Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.

In its official statement, the Telangana government described the naming as a tribute to the United States and a recognition of Hyderabad's growing role in bilateral ties between India and the US.

The move has drawn mixed reactions, with some welcoming the gesture as a diplomatic courtesy and others questioning the timing and political implications. No further official comments have been made by the state government beyond the initial announcement.
