Six Children Drown in Separate Incidents in Delhi; Search for Missing Teens Underway

Delhi Police reported on Monday that four teenagers are feared dead after being swept away while bathing in the Yamuna River. The incident occurred on Sunday evening near Hiranki village in Outer North district.

According to a police officer, a PCR call was received around 7:45 p.m. Five boys, aged 14 to 15, had gone to the river for a bath. One of them raised an alarm after the others were caught in strong currents. Local residents from nearby agricultural fields attempted to rescue them, but the boys were carried away by the water.

Search operations involving the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Fire Services, and Delhi Police have been underway since Sunday evening. Authorities are making all possible efforts to trace the missing children, the officer said.

In a separate incident on Sunday, two boys aged 8 and 10 drowned in a water-filled pit in Mukhmelpur village. Police stated that the boys were playing in an agricultural field when they accidentally fell into a pit dug for collecting excess rainwater. Both were taken to a hospital, where they were declared brought dead. Their bodies have been sent to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital for post-mortem.

A case of death due to negligence has been registered against the owner of the pit, and an investigation is underway to identify the responsible person, police added.

These incidents highlight the dangers of unsupervised swimming in rivers and water bodies, especially during the monsoon season when currents can be unpredictable. Authorities urge parents and guardians to ensure children do not bathe in unsafe waters.

MHA defends anti-corruption bills: 'Not aimed at destabilising state governments'

The Union Home Ministry has defended its anti-corruption bills against opposition claims that they target non-BJP state governments. The MHA says the provisions remove from office only those under arrest for 30 days, while preserving legislative membership, and that the democratic mandate remains unaffected as the ruling party can appoint a replacement.
