Techie's Rs 50 Lakh Trading Loss Highlights Risks of Unregulated Investment Tips

A software professional earning Rs 40 lakh per annum has reportedly lost Rs 50 lakh in day trading after following tips from a Telegram channel, and now plans to sell two acres of land to cover the loss. The account was shared by his relative, Vikas, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

According to Vikas, his relative's journey began with humble origins. He studied in a government school until Class 10, later completing a B.Tech in Computer Science from a tier-3 college. Despite initial struggles due to a Telugu-medium background, he graduated from Kakatiya University in Warangal and was placed at Infosys. Starting his career with an annual salary of Rs 3.5 lakh, he steadily rose to earning around Rs 40 lakh per year.

With disposable income in hand, the techie sought investment opportunities. He found a Telegram channel that provided trading signals. Initially, he made profits of Rs 2-3 lakh, which encouraged him to invest larger sums. However, he soon began ignoring the signals and relied on his own analysis. This led to substantial losses, ultimately totaling Rs 50 lakh.

The post, which has gained traction online, drew various reactions from social media users. One user commented, "A Rs 40 lakh salary can't protect you from bad financial decisions." Another said, "Making money is skill, but keeping it is wisdom." A third user noted that salary does not directly correlate with financial intelligence.

Financial experts often caution against relying on unregulated trading advice from platforms like Telegram. Day trading involves high risks, and many investors face significant losses due to market volatility and lack of proper knowledge. The incident underscores the importance of financial literacy and seeking advice from registered financial advisors.

While the techie's career growth is commendable, this loss serves as a reminder that prudent financial decision-making is crucial. Selling land may help recover the immediate financial shortfall, but it also carries long-term implications. This story highlights the need for individuals to approach investment opportunities with caution and due diligence.
