Search on after four suspected terrorists spotted in J&K's Doda
Security forces have launched a large-scale search operation in the mountainous Ramtund area of Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district after a video surfaced showing four suspected terrorists scaling a peak, officials said on Tuesday (August 11, 2026).
The Ramtund Peak lies close to the Seoj Dhar belt of the neighbouring Udhampur district, a remote and heavily forested region that security agencies have long identified as a potential transit and hideout route for militant groups. The difficult terrain, dense forests, and connectivity to adjoining mountain areas make the belt strategically sensitive.
According to official sources, local residents captured the footage and alerted security forces late Monday (August 10, 2026) afternoon. Acting on the information, the army, police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) mobilised reinforcements from Udhampur on Tuesday morning. A massive operation was under way when last reports were received, the sources said.
Preliminary inputs suggest the group may comprise three foreign terrorists and one local, but there has been no contact with the suspected individuals so far. Forces are combing the surrounding forests, ridgelines, and mountain tracks to track them down.
The Ramtund area has historically been used by terrorists as an infiltration, transit, and concealment route. Security agencies have maintained heightened vigilance in the region, especially during the summer months when passes are open and movement becomes easier.
The current operation underscores the continued challenges posed by difficult geography in the Union Territory, where security forces regularly conduct counter-terrorist sweeps.
