RSS Chief Bhagwat: India’s Voice Crucial for Global Well-being
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday asserted that India’s perspective and voice are indispensable for global welfare, emphasising the nation’s role in fostering peace and harmony worldwide.
Speaking at an event in Nagpur, Bhagwat said, “Bharat must be heard. The world is looking for a direction that upholds human values and environmental balance. India, with its ancient wisdom and democratic ethos, can guide global discourse towards inclusive growth and sustainability.”
The RSS chief did not specify any particular policy or diplomatic initiative but highlighted the need for India to articulate its stance on international platforms. He called upon Indian citizens to be proud of their cultural heritage and contribute to the nation’s soft power.
Bhagwat’s remarks come at a time when India is increasingly asserting itself in global forums such as the G20, the United Nations, and the Quad. Analysts note that such statements from influential figures like the RSS chief often reflect a broader nationalist sentiment that prioritises India’s independent foreign policy.
The RSS, founded in 1925, is a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation that has significant cultural and political influence in India. While it is not a political party, its ideological affiliate, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), currently leads the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Critics, however, caution against conflating cultural pride with majoritarian exclusivism. They argue that for India’s voice to be truly effective on the global stage, it must be inclusive and representative of its diverse population.
Bhagwat’s address did not delve into any contentious domestic or international issues but broadly urged Indians to engage with the world from a position of confidence rooted in traditional values.
No further details about the event or the audience were immediately available. The RSS chief frequently speaks at organisational gatherings, outlining his vision for India’s role in the world.
