Coimbatore Police's Singappen Special Force Helps Boy, 11, Continue School
The Singappen Special Force (SSF), a unit of the Coimbatore District (Rural) Police, has helped an 11-year-old boy from Coimbatore continue his schooling after his mother found it difficult to support his education. The boy, a Class 6 student at a government school in the Kuniyamuthur area, was living with his parents when his father allegedly expelled him and his wife from the house due to a family dispute.
The mother, who now had to separately manage her work and her son's schooling, found herself in a difficult situation. She approached the SSF with a request for assistance, explaining that she wanted her son to continue his studies in a safe environment. The SSF team took up the matter, conducted an inquiry into the family's circumstances, and subsequently helped the woman enrol her son in a residential school at Valparai.
The residential school offers the boy a stable environment to pursue his education. The mother has expressed her gratitude to the police force for the intervention.
This is not the first time the SSF has stepped in to help a child in need. In July this year, the team enrolled two children in the tribal residential school at Valparai on July 20. Their mother, a widow, had been struggling to support their studies after the death of her husband. In addition to securing their admission, the SSF arranged clothes and study materials for the siblings.
The SSF, attached to the Coimbatore District (Rural) Police, functions as a special response unit. It has undertaken various welfare activities, including helping families in distress. In both recent instances, the force received appeals from mothers who were unable to meet the educational needs of their children due to personal hardships. By coordinating with educational institutions, the SSF ensured that the children did not drop out of school.
The interventions highlight the role of the police in supporting vulnerable communities beyond their traditional law and order duties. For the children involved, the residential school arrangement provides not only education but also a measure of stability and security. The SSF's actions have enabled these students to continue their academic journey without interruption.
Education remains a fundamental right of every child. The timely help extended by the SSF ensures that the families do not have to compromise on this right due to difficult circumstances.
