Red Fort Blast: Delhi Court Orders Dignified Cremation of Victims' Remains

On Monday, a Delhi court granted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) permission to cremate or dispose of the mortal remains recovered from the November 2025 car bomb explosion near the Red Fort, which claimed 14 lives.

Special Judge Pitambar Dutt of Patiala House Courts directed that the remains be handled with dignity, respecting the religious beliefs of the victims. The NIA had sought permission as the remains had started decomposing, and informed the court that all forensic examinations were complete.

The court also allowed the NIA to dispose of the remains of Dr. Umar-un-Nabi, the prime accused who allegedly drove the explosives-laden car that detonated. The agency must file a compliance report.

According to the NIA's 7,500-page chargesheet filed on May 14, the explosion was orchestrated by a terror module led by a group of doctors. Last month, a supplementary chargesheet was filed against three more individuals, bringing the total number of persons chargesheeted to 13.
