Pune Murder Case: Accused Couple Reportedly Studied Earlier Cliff Killing

Pune police investigating the murder of businessman Ketan Agarwal have stated that the accused, his fiancée Siya Goyal and her alleged accomplice Chetan Chaudhary, may have studied the methods used in a previous murder case. The case in question involves Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was convicted for killing her husband Raja Raghuvanshi by pushing him off a cliff.

According to police sources, similarities exist between the two cases. In both instances, the victims were pushed from a height during a trek. Investigators believe that Goyal and Chaudhary may have learned from the mistakes made by Raghuvanshi, allowing them to craft a more elaborate plan with stronger alibis.

Police stated that the breakthrough came during sustained interrogation. The accused initially maintained that Agarwal's death was accidental, but investigators found inconsistencies. The location where Agarwal fell was less dangerous than other spots on the trek at Lohagad Fort, raising doubts.

“It was a crime of desperation. Personal relations and her thinking process led her to believe this was the only way out. The transactional element between families also played a role,” a police officer told NDTV.

Officers noted that the couple had conducted detailed research during the planning phase, including reading news reports about the Raghuvanshi case. While Raghuvanshi acted alone, in this case both Goyal and Chaudhary allegedly pushed Agarwal together, as a single person may not have had enough strength.

Police also reported that the accused have shown no remorse and have not expressed regret. “Time in jail usually breaks the most hardened criminals. Perhaps with the duo now in judicial custody, realisation will dawn on them,” the officer added.

The investigation has revealed that Goyal and Chaudhary created layers of alibis to avoid detection. The police emphasized that while a confession in custody has limited evidentiary value, it helps guide evidence collection.

The case has drawn public attention due to the chilling premeditation and the accused's apparent lack of guilt. The police continue to gather forensic and digital evidence to build a robust case for trial.

SC upholds broad 'industry' definition for pending cases under old labour law

The Supreme Court upheld the broad definition of 'industry' from the 1978 Bangalore Water Supply case, applying it to pending cases under the Industrial Disputes Act. The ruling covers temples, NGOs and government agencies where an employer-employee relationship exists, but will not guide challenges to the new Industrial Relations Code.
