Prime Minister Modi returns to New Delhi after concluding France and Slovakia visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for New Delhi on Thursday after wrapping up a two-nation visit to France and Slovakia. The trip included participation in the G-7 Summit and bilateral meetings with several world leaders.
In France, Modi attended the G-7 Summit in Evian-Les-Bains on Tuesday and Wednesday, where India was a guest country. He also addressed the VivaTech 2026 technology conference in Paris and spoke about democratising technology, stating that for India, AI means "all inclusive." He highlighted that half of the world's digital transactions occur in India.
Modi engaged with the Indian diaspora in Paris, noting that India is emerging as a "trusted partner" globally and that this is a defining period for the country. He met with several leaders on the sidelines of the G-7, including US President Donald Trump, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. In his meeting with Trump, Modi raised the issue of seafarers' safety, urging priority in implementing the US-Iran peace deal.
Earlier, Modi concluded what was described as a "historic and productive" visit to Slovakia, the first by an Indian Prime Minister. During that leg, India and Slovakia elevated ties to a comprehensive partnership and signed 11 agreements covering migration, digital technology, and defence cooperation.
Modi thanked the governments and peoples of both countries for their hospitality and expressed confidence that bilateral relations would strengthen further.
