PM Modi's Bollywood Reference in Indonesia Highlights Cultural Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to Indonesia, made a light-hearted reference to the popular Bollywood film 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', drawing laughter and applause from the audience. The remark came in the context of discussing the strong cultural and diplomatic bonds between India and Indonesia.

Speaking at a community event in Jakarta, PM Modi said, 'Some say that in India-Indonesia relations, something is happening, something is happening. But I say, much is happening.' The play on the film's famous dialogue 'Kuch kuch hota hai' was used to underscore the deepening partnership between the two nations.

The Prime Minister highlighted several areas of cooperation, including defence, trade, and maritime security. He reiterated India's commitment to the Indo-Pacific region and the importance of ASEAN in India's Act East policy. Indonesia, as a key ASEAN member, is a crucial partner in maintaining regional stability.

Cultural ties were also emphasised, with PM Modi noting the shared heritage of Ramayana and Mahabharata in both countries. He mentioned ongoing collaborations in education, technology, and tourism aimed at bringing the people of both nations closer.

The Bollywood reference was seen as an effective icebreaker, reflecting the soft power of Indian cinema in building international goodwill. The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and open new avenues for cooperation.
