PM Modi launches India's first greenfield refinery, announces projects worth Rs 1.06 lakh crore in Rajasthan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on [date] launched India's first greenfield refinery in Rajasthan, marking a significant step in the country's energy infrastructure development. The refinery, located in Barmer district, is part of a larger package of projects worth Rs 1.06 lakh crore unveiled by the Prime Minister during his visit to the state.

The greenfield refinery, built by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), is expected to have a capacity of 9 million metric tonnes per annum. It will produce Bharat Stage-VI (BS-VI) compliant fuels, aligning with India's stricter emission norms. The project is projected to generate direct and indirect employment for thousands of people in the region.

Alongside the refinery, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several other initiatives, including a new railway line, a highway project, and renewable energy parks. These projects aim to boost economic growth in Rajasthan, particularly in the backward areas of the state.

The Prime Minister emphasized the government's commitment to energy self-sufficiency and reducing import dependence. He noted that the refinery would help meet growing fuel demand and strengthen the country's energy security. The project is also expected to provide a fillip to the local economy by creating ancillary industries and improving connectivity.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, and other dignitaries were present at the event. The government highlighted that the refinery would incorporate advanced technology to minimise environmental impact.

This development comes at a time when India is focusing on enhancing its refining capacity to support its rising energy needs. The country is currently the world's third-largest oil consumer, and such projects are crucial for sustainable growth.
