Vijayawada railway division earns ₹4,894 crore revenue in first four months
The Vijayawada division of South Coast Railway (SCoR) has recorded a Gross Originating Revenue of approximately ₹4,894 crore during the first four months of its existence, according to Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mohit Sonakiya. SCoR was recently formed with Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, and Guntakal divisions.
Speaking at the Independence Day celebrations held on Saturday, Mr. Sonakiya read out the message from SCoR General Manager. He stated that freight loading reached 32.084 million tonnes, generating around ₹3,343 crore in revenue. Passenger fares contributed approximately ₹1,356 crore, with passenger traffic touching about 58.61 million.
To meet increased passenger demand, the division operated 76 special trains and attached 408 additional coaches, the DRM added.
Earlier, Mr. Sonakiya hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour. He was joined by Additional DRMs Konda Srinivasa Rao and P.E. Edwin, along with other senior railway officials from various departments. They paid tributes to freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India's independence.
Later, the DRM presented medals and meritorious certificates to 18 students from Jack and Jill, Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Icon Public School, and Bharat Scouts and Guides. These students excelled in essay writing and painting competitions on the themes 'Vande Mataram' and 'Freedom Struggle', conducted as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign.
Family members of railway officials and staff participated in the celebrations.
