Passport Seva Outage Disrupts Services Across India; Applicants Left in the Dark

A server outage in the passport service portal caused hours-long waits for applicants in several parts of the country on Wednesday, with no official communication from authorities to explain the disruption. Cities including Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Mallapuram, Udupi and Lalbagh reported affected services.

According to online outage trackers, the website 'https://www.passportindia.gov.in' experienced an 'Active Service Outage' with technical difficulties, while another tracker listed 'https://services2.passportindia.gov' as inaccessible globally. The outage began around the time passport offices opened at 10.15 a.m.

With no official update from the Passport Seva Service, many applicants turned to social media to express their frustration. One user wrote: "Really disappointed with the Passport Seva service today. The servers are down, and people are left waiting without any clear update or alternative. The government really needs to focus more on IT infrastructure for critical public services like Passport Seva." Another user said: "Big goof up and mishandling at #raidurg #PassportSevaKendra nobody cares to inform applicants waiting for hours for services after paying huge revised fees and no info as to what’s happening."

As of the time of reporting, the Passport Seva Service had not issued any official statement regarding the outage or the expected time for restoration. The incident highlights concerns about the reliability and transparency of digital infrastructure for essential public services.
