NEET-UG Re-exam: NTA to Hold Mock Drill on June 20 for 22.79 Lakh Candidates
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to conduct a nationwide mock drill on Saturday, June 20, 2026, a day before the NEET-UG re-examination, as part of its efforts to ensure a smooth and transparent conduct of the test. The drill will involve all stakeholders, including district administrations, police, and escort teams responsible for transporting confidential materials.
The NTA, in a statement on Friday, confirmed that it is fully prepared for the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination scheduled for Sunday, June 21, 2026. The re-examination was ordered by the Supreme Court after the original test was cancelled due to reports of a paper leak and other irregularities. The NTA has been working under close scrutiny to restore confidence in the examination process.
The test will be conducted from 2 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. in pen-and-paper mode across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. Over 22.79 lakh candidates are registered to appear. Candidates with disabilities (PwD/PwBD) who are eligible for compensatory time will be allowed to write the examination until 6:20 p.m.
According to the NTA, the re-examination involves extensive coordination among multiple agencies. A total of 674 city coordinators have been appointed to oversee operations at the city level, and 6,669 observers will provide independent oversight at examination centres. Centre superintendents and invigilators have been deployed at each centre to ensure adherence to protocols.
In total, over 2 lakh personnel, including police and district administration officials, have been mobilised. The NTA has also implemented enhanced security measures, including CCTV surveillance and strict identity verification, to prevent any malpractice. The mock drill on Saturday will test these arrangements and identify any gaps.
For the mock drill, NTA officials will simulate the entire process of candidate entry, distribution of question papers, and collection of answer sheets. This will help identify any logistical issues and ensure that the actual examination proceeds without hurdles. The NTA has also set up a dedicated control room to coordinate with city centres and respond to any emergencies.
The re-examination is being conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court, which has appointed a retired judge to monitor the process. The NTA has assured candidates that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure a fair and transparent examination. Candidates are advised to check their admit cards and report to their assigned centres on time, carrying a valid photo ID and their admit card. Electronic devices are prohibited inside the exam hall.
