Delhi Police uses eParikshan app to vet 14,000 premises along Red Fort route for I-Day
New Delhi: With Independence Day celebrations set to take place at the Red Fort, the Delhi Police has identified at least 14,000 households, shops and offices along the route meant for VIP movement. The survey was conducted using the eParikshan app, a digital tool used internally by the force for premises verification.
Senior officials said the collected data will be shared with the Special Branch, which will cross-check it to identify individuals with criminal antecedents. The exercise is part of the enhanced security arrangements ahead of the August 15 function.
“While mechanisms such as tenant verification are carried out on a regular basis, we used the application to identify 14,000 premises along the route. Their data has been scanned and it is being ascertained whether any occupant has a criminal history,” a senior police officer said, requesting anonymity.
The survey covers buildings located on both sides of the road from Tilak Marg to Netaji Subhash Marg. The officer added that the app had been used earlier in the North district and its usage would be extended to the Central district after Independence Day.
The eParikshan app is part of the Delhi Police’s efforts to digitise records. During field visits, police personnel use the app to assign a unique Premises Identification Number to each property. The app captures details of residents, tenants, domestic helps and employees, including name, date of birth, father’s name, Aadhaar number, mobile number, address, occupation, employer details and a photograph.
It also records the GPS coordinates of the premises, the time and date of verification, and real-time photographs to authenticate the visit. The app operates offline and synchronises the data once internet connectivity is available.
Officials said the app was first used in 2024 during the Independence Day arrangements. It is intended to replace paper-based records, streamline tenant and antecedent verification, and create a searchable digital database for investigations. The move is aimed at strengthening security and monitoring, particularly during major public events.
The identification of premises and occupants is a standard security measure undertaken before large events. The Delhi Police has been using technology-enabled tools to improve efficiency and accuracy in such exercises.
