Woman teacher, 32, stabbed to death in Faridabad school; man arrested
A 32-year-old woman teacher was stabbed to death inside a private school in Faridabad on Monday morning, in a sudden attack. The police have arrested a 21-year-old man, identified as Amit, a resident of Kot village, in connection with the murder. According to senior police officials, the accused was taken into custody within two hours of the incident. The arrest was made possible through technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, the police said.
As per eyewitness accounts, the accused entered the school premises in Sikrauna village at around 10 a.m. while wearing a mask. Without any hesitation, he walked directly to the staff room, where the teacher was seated. After a brief exchange of words lasting only a few seconds, he brought out a knife and began stabbing her. The teacher's screams alarmed the staff members, who rushed from adjacent rooms. They attempted to physically restrain the attacker, but he broke free and escaped from the school grounds. The entire episode unfolded in a matter of minutes, according to those present.
The teacher was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital in Faridabad, where doctors on duty declared her dead on arrival. The police have stated that the victim suffered multiple deep wounds on her neck, chest and face, which proved fatal. The victim's husband, Vikas, filed a written complaint at the Sector 58 police station, prompting the registration of a case. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination, the police said.
The accused, during preliminary interrogation, reportedly told the police that he had known the teacher for about two years. She had previously served as a teacher at a private school in his village, which is how they became acquainted. He admitted to stalking her over a period of time, but the victim had maintained distance and even threatened to approach the police. The accused claimed that this rejection angered him, and he therefore decided to confront her at her workplace, according to the police.
The police have recovered the weapon used in the attack and are verifying other details. The accused is expected to be produced before a court on Tuesday. The authorities have said that further investigation is in progress, and they are scrutinising the accused's background, including his phone records and any previous interactions with the victim. Additional charges may be added based on the findings. The police are also checking whether the victim had previously reported any harassment or stalking to the authorities.
The legal framework governing stalking is outlined under Section 354D of the Indian Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to three years for a first offence and up to five years for a subsequent conviction. In this case, however, the principal charge is murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment or the death penalty, depending on the circumstances.
The murder has sparked concern among teachers and parents in the region. It has also underscored the serious nature of stalking, which is a criminal offence under the Indian Penal Code. The police have assured that a thorough and transparent investigation will be carried out, and strict action will be taken against the guilty.
