Kerala PSC Exam Irregularities: Crime Branch Team Probes Alleged Manipulation at Headquarters

The investigation into alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) has intensified. A special investigation team (SIT) led by Crime Branch Inspector General S. Ajeetha Begum visited the PSC headquarters on Monday, July 13, 2026.

The three-member team arrived at the headquarters after recording statements from complainants. They are believed to have gathered preliminary information regarding suspected malpractices in the recruitment process.

Earlier, investigators recorded detailed statements from complainants K. Shyam Krishnan and J.S. Jayalal, who secured the third and fifth ranks, respectively, in the recruitment for Chief (Industry and Infrastructure) at the State Planning Board. Their depositions lasted nearly five hours. Both candidates alleged serious irregularities and claimed that the final rank list was manipulated.

According to the complainants, the alleged malpractice involved improper evaluation of answer scripts, with numerous questions left unevaluated. This resulted in deserving candidates being unfairly excluded, while others were moved ahead on the rank list. The allegations prompted the PSC to freeze the disputed rank list.

The Crime Branch team is examining whether there was deliberate manipulation in the recruitment process. Investigators will verify the claims by corroborating statements with official records and examination documents. The team is expected to request additional documents from the PSC to further the investigation.

The SIT will formally register First Information Reports after scrutinising the complaints and evidence gathered during the probe.

Supreme Court Flags Misuse of POCSO Act in Teenage Romantic Cases

The court made the remarks during a suo motu case on adolescent privacy, sparked by a controversial 2023 Calcutta High Court ruling.
