Samsung to launch 10 STEM labs for 3,000 government school students in Tamil Nadu
Samsung India has announced the establishment of 10 dedicated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) laboratories in government schools across Kancheepuram and Ranipet districts of Tamil Nadu. The initiative, launched under the company's DigiArivu programme, is expected to benefit approximately 3,000 students.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with the UN Global Compact Network India (UNGCNI). It aims to strengthen STEM learning through hands-on educational equipment, Building as Learning Aid (BaLA), upgraded school infrastructure, and teacher development. BaLA is an approach that incorporates learning elements into the physical infrastructure of schools, such as educational graphics on walls, floors, and other structural features.
The 10 schools covered under the initiative are located in Maduramangalam, Molachur, Edayarpakkam, Damal, and Thirupputkuzhi in Kancheepuram district, and Panappakkam, Arcot, Thimiri, Kalavai, and Walajapet in Ranipet district. These schools were selected as part of Samsung's ongoing efforts to enhance digital and scientific education in the state.

Through DigiArivu, Samsung is working with schools in Tamil Nadu to create engaging learning environments where technology, hands-on STEM education, and teacher development come together to help young learners build confidence and prepare for the future."
STEM education is increasingly recognised as a critical component of school curricula, as it equips students with problem-solving skills and exposure to technology. In government schools, access to modern laboratories is often limited, and initiatives such as these aim to bridge that gap. The labs are expected to allow students to perform experiments, engage with scientific concepts, and develop a practical understanding of subjects like physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics.
The initiative also aligns with broader educational priorities in India, which emphasise experiential learning and the use of technology in classrooms. Both government and private organisations are increasingly investing in technology-enabled learning, and the new STEM labs are part of this trend.
Teacher training is a key component of the programme. Educators at the selected schools will receive orientation on how to use the new equipment and integrate hands-on activities into their lessons. This is intended to ensure that the labs become active centres of learning rather than just additional infrastructure.
Samsung has a significant presence in Tamil Nadu, with a manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. The company has stated that this initiative builds on its broader commitment to manufacturing, innovation, and community development in the state. Over the years, Samsung has implemented several educational and skill-development programmes in India, with a focus on underserved communities.
The DigiArivu programme is part of Samsung's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in education. The collaboration with UNGCNI is intended to support effective implementation and monitoring of the labs. By providing hands-on learning resources and teacher training, the programme seeks to create a sustainable impact on the quality of education in the selected schools.
UNGCNI, which assists companies in aligning with UN principles and sustainable development goals, will help oversee the roll-out in the two districts. The initiative is expected to benefit around 3,000 students directly, giving them opportunities to explore STEM fields and develop skills that are increasingly relevant in a technology-driven economy. The schools will receive not only equipment but also support for infrastructure upgrades and teacher development, ensuring that the labs are used effectively. The establishment of these labs marks another step in expanding access to quality STEM education in government schools in Tamil Nadu.
