Jaishankar: India committed to safe, legal migration with 28 pacts

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday reaffirmed India's commitment to "safe, orderly, and legal migration" while addressing the inaugural Human Resource Mobility Forum in New Delhi. The forum, organised by the Ministry of External Affairs, focuses on facilitating the movement of skilled talent across borders.

Jaishankar noted that the global economy increasingly depends on mobile human resources, especially as many countries face ageing populations and declining workforces. He highlighted the significance of the "silver economy"—caregiving and healthcare—and the "tech economy," both of which rely heavily on cross-border talent mobility.

The minister also revealed that India has signed 28 Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreements with 26 countries, including recent agreements with Germany, Italy, and Japan. These pacts aim to promote legal migration pathways and protect the rights of Indian workers abroad.

Jaishankar emphasised that India views migration as an opportunity rather than a challenge, and the government is working to create streamlined and transparent processes for Indians seeking employment overseas. The Human Resource Mobility Forum serves as a platform for stakeholders to discuss best practices and strengthen international cooperation in this domain.
