India's Vivek Aggarwal Appointed FATF Vice-President for 2026-27 Term

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the global watchdog for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing, has appointed India's Vivek Aggarwal as its vice-president for the 2026-2027 term. Aggarwal currently serves as Secretary in India's Ministry of Culture.

The appointment was announced during the FATF plenary meeting, where members also approved the priorities for the incoming United Kingdom Presidency. Aggarwal will assume the vice-presidency from July 2026, succeeding Giles Thomson, who has held the position since July 1, 2025.

Aggarwal has led India's delegation to the FATF and played a key role in the country's mutual evaluation process, which assesses compliance with international standards. His selection underscores India's growing influence in global financial governance and its commitment to combating illicit financial flows, money laundering, and terrorist financing.

The FATF is an intergovernmental body that sets standards and promotes effective implementation of legal, regulatory, and operational measures to combat financial crime. India has been a member since 2010 and has increasingly taken on leadership roles within the organisation.
