Indian Sailor from Pune Confirmed Dead After July 12 Ship Attack off Oman

A sailor from Pune, who had been missing since the July 12 attack on the Cyprus-flagged cargo vessel MV GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, has been confirmed dead, the Indian Consulate in Dubai announced on Wednesday.

The vessel carried 11 Indian crew members, of whom 10 were rescued. The death toll of Indian nationals in the ongoing West Asia conflict now stands at 14 since February 28, according to the consulate.

Indian officials are closely coordinating with UAE authorities and the shipping company to provide all possible assistance to the deceased sailor's family.

“We express our deepest condolences at the tragic demise of an Indian national due to an attack on the commercial vessel MV GFS Galaxy on 12 July 2026,” the Mission said in a post on social media platform X.
